I remember plug-in developers of purchased plugins just shutting down shop and their plugins being inactive after o/s and/or cpu updates. There are a lot more serious what if’s in this business. Or are we saying Slate, Adobe, etc will all go out of business and we will never be able to open old projects. Similar to when we get mix sessions in and the producer has plug-in or two integral to the sound and we don’t have that plug-in. Or you purchase the plugins you need from Slate, etc as that option has not gone anywhere. You rent for the month and all your plugs will be there. Now back to using RX 7 Advanced, Ozone 9, Tonal Balance Control, Vocal Synth 2 and all the other iZotope products I work with on a daily basis I lost some Dropbox's functionality, but now I never have to pay for cloud services, unless Pcloud goes bust.
I usually buy new plugins once or twice a year, but sometimes not when the funds or the interest is not there.įor example, two years ago I migrated from Dropbox to Pcloud, because the latter had a lifetime deal which was cheaper than 3 years of Dropbox (which had just increased it's annual fees). I don't want to be married to certain brand, but instead I like to use a host of plugins from various manufacturers.

If I'm happy with version 3 of the plugin/DAW etc, and am not looking to upgrade to version 4, but would rather save my money even if it means missing some features, I can't do this with subs.Ĥ. If I need to downsize, it sucks to know my old sessions won't open because I don't have access to certain sub-only plugins.ģ. Having monthly costs (that can go up!) is way worse than paying up front then and there when you have the money to spend 500€ on plugins.Ģ. Like most plugin users, I'm a smalltime freelancer, and it's impossible to estimate what my income is going to be next year, or the year after. But with plugin subs, there are a number of things that rub me the wrong way:ġ. In some cases, it makes a lot of sense not to own the product but keep paying for the right to use it.
